Steven Wilson Moves GENTLE GIANT’s “Missing Piece”

To call “The Missing Piece” one of GENTLE GIANT‘s most experimental statement would be simultaneously true and false because, finding the ensemble embrace – at least, on the first side of the platter – the period’s pop and punk tendencies, it marked the British collective’s shift towards unexpected simplicity. Still, despite their move away from the progressive grandeur of "Octopus" and other early albums, the 1977 offering remains one of fans’ favorites, and, given the band’s reissue programme has reached this point, another Steven Wilson remix is forthcoming.

THE ROLLING STONES Look Back To Two-Decade Old Glory

There are many gratifying aspects to THE ROLLING STONES concert releases of, at least, last ten years, a few salient points being formats’ variety, affordable prices and total chronological unpredictability, all of it checking the boxes with the veterans’ forthcoming release “Live At The Wiltern” that’s scheduled for March 8th and documents the band’s November 2002 show in Los Angeles. It was the set which focused on rarely performed classics, with several hits thrown in for good measure.

THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY Deepen Their Presence

Nowadays, when supergroups are dime a dozen and famous musicians often team up to homogenize the scene, some ensembles are still precious, one of those being THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY. This conglomerate of THE WRECKING CREW legends – guitarists Waddy Wachtel and Danny Kortchmar, bassist Leland Sklar and drummer Russ Kunkel – masterminded by singer Steve Postell have been around for the best part of a decade, cutting three studio records and one concert album and becoming the subject of a star-strewn documentary which premiered on major streaming platforms on December 15th. And now they’re ready to launch another platter.

NEKTAR Recycle Their Environmental Masterpiece

They may have not been unique in their pursue of progressive rock idiom, yet it didn’t take long for NEKTAR to decide that cosmic playgrounds they explored on "A Tab In The Ocean" and "Remember The Future" – their second and fourth albums, released, respectively, in 1972 and 1973 – were rather limited in space scope and that there were earthly matters worth scrutinizing in terms of music. Cue “Recycled”: the British ensemble’s sixth full-length platter which saw the light of day later in the decade – in Germany in 1975, in the US in 1976 and in the UK in 1977 – when ecological agenda became vital for many an artist, YES’ “Don’t Kill The Whale” serving as another example of this concern.

KRAFTWERK Alumnus Karl Bartos Scores Classic Film

An oft-overlooked electronic maven, Karl Bartos may always be associated with KRAFTWERK that he was a member of for decade and a half, yet the German artist’s expertise, steeped in expressionism, is much deeper than that tenure, one aspect of the veteran’s creative perspective manifesting itself in his translating of classic cinema into sonic experience. Sourcing inspiration from Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis” for the aforementioned foursome’s piece of the same title which landed on “The Man-Machine” in 1978, Bartos expanded his approach recently to score Robert Wiene’s 1920 flick “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” whose original soundtrack, written by Giuseppe Becce, vanished in mists of time.
