It’s long been out of fashion for musicians to be issuing new records every couple of years, only MAGNUM never really cared for fads and saw that their discography almost always ran according to such a grueling schedule. Which is why the veterans’ “The Monster Roars” from 2022 will soon be followed by another studio opus, titled “Here Comes The Rain” and finding Bob Catley, Tony Clarkin and their younger colleagues return on the fantasy fields the ensemble used to roam until recently.
Mac Rebennack knew how to be flamboyant when he turned into Dr. John, The Night Tripper, and spread his feathers and his hoodoo around the world, with a full band to bolster such exuberance; yet the legendary artist felt as self-assured, if somewhat vulnerable, performing on his own – only he did so not too often. However, that’s how the good Doctor decided to appear before the audience when playing on his home turf, in New Orleans, as part of the local Jazz Fest in 1984 and, fortunately, this concert was recorded and will see the release on November 24th.
It might have been penned by David Bowie, yet it were MOTT THE HOOPLE who turned “All The Young Dudes” into a generations-spanning rock ‘n’ roll anthem, thus saving their declining career and rendering their fifth album, released in 1972, a classic on par with the British ensemble’s earlier platters. The record’s jubilee somehow went unnoticed last year, so – better late than never – this gem’s deluxe edition will see the light of day on December 8th.
Even though he was retired at that time, Dan McCafferty‘s passing on November 8, 2022 at the age of 76 felt like a harsh blow not only to the followers of Scottish finest heavy band, NAZARETH, but for the myriads of those who knew the warbler by his immortal rendition of “Love Hurts” or by his influence on the likes of Bon Scott and Axl Rose. Which is why a bunch of rarities from the singer’s private home archives stored on a forthcoming album bearing the legend of “In Memory Of” will be most welcome. And weird, too.
Being a performer whose work amalgamates symphonic music and postmodernism and focuses on oeuvre of such minimalists as Philip Glass, Bruce Brubaker‘s is not the name international rock audience might be familiar with – but that doesn’t mean he is not familiar with rock idiom, at least when it comes to another minimalist, Brian Eno. For a few years, the American artist has been transcribing the English legend’s pieces for piano, yet his new album will take this effort further.
