Rock Veterans Meddle With PINK FLOYD’s Lesser Classic

It would have been silly to think that, once PINK FLOYD‘s four primary ’70s albums got covered by elite players on the likes of "Still Wish You Were Here" and "Animals Reimagined" which gave a new spin to the very much familiar material, such tributes would stop. And while it would be stupid to think that the quartet’s later platters deserve a similar treatment, the same can’t be said about their earlier records. Which is why “Meddle Reimagined” – slated for release on September 1st – seems rather interesting.

Keith Emerson’s “Variations” Box Set: Full Tracklist Revealed

For all the glorious spotlight Keith Emerson enjoyed with THE NICE and ELP, the great late musician’s solo oeuvre remains largely obscure to an average listener – not because his records are not available but because not a lot of people, except hardcore fans, seem to be interested in the ivories driver’s soundtracks and other ventures outside classic art-rock idiom. Still, the albums Keith released under his own name feel quite alluring once given a spin, and tracking Emerson’s personal progress is a treat. Which is why the 20-CD box set “Variations” that’s to see the light of day on October 13th has a certain magnetism to it.

Mo Foster Passed Away

A genuine gentlemen and a professor of bass: those were the two phrases one’s mind evoked during any communication with the great Mo Foster who passed away today at the age of 78 after a brief, if fierce, fight with cancer. A player whom everybody heard, often without knowing his name, Mo’s musical expertise seemed immense, Foster’s bass cutting a deep, yet exquisite, groove on such varied platters as Frida’s “Something Going On” and “There & Back” by Jeff Beck, Phil Collins’ “Hello, I Must Be Going!” and “The Michael Schenker Group” from the band of the same nomination, Ringo’s “Old Wave” and "The Fugitive" by Tony Banks, Kenny Rogers’ “The Heart Of The Matter” and “Night Owl” from Gerry Rafferty, Sarah Brightman’s “I Lost My Heart To Starship Trooper” and, of course, “Evita” by Andrew Lloyd Webber, to mention but a few.

RAMMSTEIN Get A Tribute From Predecessors And Peers

There have been quite a few homages paid to RAMMSTEIN over the years, only those albums are of marginal interest since it usually were followers of the German industrial giants who recorded their songs without ever tasting commercial success they achieved. Still, given 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of the Berliners’ beginnings, it was logical to arrange a special tribute to Till Lindemann and his colleagues – and there will be one, out on August 25th.

BANG Are Back With A Mirror Of Selves

That’s quite an inauspicious beginning if a band’s first album is deemed too conceptual for its heavy music and too metallic for its coherent lyrical ideas, yet this was exactly what happened to American trio BANG who countered such a punch by delivering a follow-up record which, with modest chart action, would become a cult classic. Their self-titled actual debut and a two-in-one offering “Mother/Bow To The King” – both released in 1972 – as well as 1973’s “Music” were well-loved but the ensemble’s disappointment with the business side of what they did resulted in unwillingness to enter the studio and a break-up. And when they did return, to lay down 1999’s “Return To Zero” and “The Maze” five years later, old fans couldn’t get too excited. Now, everybody is.
