Long-Abandoned Zappa Concert Ready For Audiovisual Release

It was a bit more than fifty years ago, on the evening of June 18th, 1974 that Frank Zappa decided to produce a TV special without getting ready for such a thing. He and THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION simply had the next two days off and could film, on five cameras, and record, with Wally Heider’s remote truck, their performance for an invited audience in Los Angeles’ DiscReet Rehearsal Studio. And they did – only the results of their effort got shelved for some reason, and the footage is said to have never even been edited. Until now, that is.

HAWKWIND Encounter The Lack Of Space

Their talents as entertainers notwithstanding, HAWKWIND have often landed on the “more of the same” formula in the last decades, and the frequency of the veterans’ latest releases doesn’t help matters much – especially when combined with the fact of the market getting oversaturated with their reissues and fresh works. Only last year found Dave Brock-fronted ensemble put out two new albums, “Stories From Time And Space” recorded in a studio and “Live At The Royal Albert Hall” documenting a concert performance, yet that didn’t stop the Brits from pushing it all further still and laying down another batch of tracks which form “There Is No Space For Us” – a strangely titled opus scheduled to hit the shelves on April 18th.

Bryan Ferry And Amelia Barratt Engage In Full-Length Collaboration

Not that Bryan Ferry was averse to projects in which he would share the spotlight with other musicians yet, apart from an occasional piece where the singer duetted with such chanteuses as Carla Bruni or Twiggy or lent his voice to recordings like Todd Terje’s, there’s been nothing available of a full-length scope. But there will be: March 28th is the date when “Loose Talk” – the veteran’s collaboration with Glaswegian artist Amelia Barratt – is to be out.

Summers And Fripp Box Set To Include Unissued Album

Most of guitar albums which felt revolutionary at the time of their issue sooner or later become obsolete – just because their influence turns out to be omnipresent, and then there are records were set so far in the future that time fail to catch up to them. This is how the couple of platters Andy Summers and Robert Fripp delivered forty years ago have fared for decades – only there’s more to the context of 1982’s “I Advance Masked” and its follow-up “Bewitched” from 1984 than most of the two friends’ fans know about. And now, with the prospect of unmasking and unbewitching but also of fresh enchantment, a four-disc box set of THE POLICE and KING CRIMSON six-stringers’ entire output is ready for release.

Paul Brady Delves Into His Archives For A Box Set

One doesn’t need to be familiar with Paul Brady‘s name to have heard him sing – and millions of people did, when the Irish warbler delivered a cover of “Gimme Shelter” for the “Sons of Anarchy” series. His career started much earlier, though, the singer’s stints with THE JOHNSTONS and PLANXTY leading to a string of solo records the first of which was released in 1978 and the last in 2022. Still, a lot of material seemed to fall through the cracks between, respectively, “Welcome Here Kind Stranger” and “Maybe So” – and that includes various collaborative efforts. So there’s a lot of reasons for veteran to compile quite a few rarities, demos and concert performances among them, into a box set.
