Sean Chambers Takes SAVOY BROWN Groove For A Spin

No other genre has been passed on down generations as generously as blues whose very development lies in young artists picking up traditional tropes from old ones, which is why Sean Chambers teaming up with SAVOY BROWN rhythm section, bassist Pat De Salvo and drummer Garnet Grimm, should not surprise anyone, yet it does. Late in 2022, knowing his demise was near, the legendary band’s leader Kim Simmonds not only outlined their farewell record "Blues All Around" that would be issued a couple of months later, but also gave his blessing to the colleagues’ plan to join the young American, their labelmate, for a tour. And now there’s a document of this collaboration is ready to be released.

Marcella Detroit, Richard Thompson And Other Stars Join Forces To Fight Parkinson’s

Parkinson’s disease is a terrible thing, and while there are ways to mitigate its symptoms, it still can’t be cured – but specialists tirelessly try to find a way to create a medicine, and there are charities that support this research. Last year, one of those, bearing a simple name Cure Parkinson’s, secured the backing of the KINDRED SPIRIT music projects who invited a stellar array of singers and players to join forces and record a series of pieces for an album which would benefit the noble cause. The album is ready for release now and will be issued under the title of “Think Loud 4 Parkinson’s” on February 14th.

Pete Townshend Produces Reg Meuross’ Tribute To Woody Guthrie

Quite a few people learned about Woody Guthrie from the recent Dylan biopic; others never forgot the legendary folkster. Reg Meuross belongs to the latter, of course, for this English artist is rather adept protest narrative, and so does Pete Townshend who’s wanted to celebrate the American hero for a long time and been looking for the right musician to commission to create a fitting tribute. It took Meuross four years of research to prepare and get ready to do justice to Guthrie, and finally March 14th is set as the date when the results of his effort, produced by Townshend, will see the light of day.

WISHBONE ASH Issue A Big Box Set Of BBC Sessions

When WISHBONE ASH released “The Vintage Years 1970-1991” back in 2018, the whopping 30-disc box set seemed to be as exhaustive as such a collection could be, what with all of the ensemble’s studio albums from the titular period augmented by eleven CDs of concert material. But how such a collection could be exhaustive if there was no Beeb recording in it – given how often the band guested on the waves? And that’s what another massive comp is to address quite comprehensively, the one titled “At The BBC 1970-1988” and scheduled to emerge on March 28th.

Godspeed You, Barry Goldberg

The great Barry Goldberg passed away on January 22nd at the age of 85, and an entire era of white blues died with him. The Chicagoan may have taken his place in history at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 as a pianist of Bob Dylan’s first electric ensemble and laying down ivories for Mitch Ryder’s take on “Devil With A Blue Dress On” in 1966, yet the teenage Goldberg’s appearances as part of Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf’s stage entourage and his apprenticeship with Paul Butterfield prepared Barry for doing his own thing. Together with Mike Bloomfield he formed THE ELECTRIC FLAG in 1967 before moving on to THE BARRY GOLDBERG REUNION a year later and becoming an in-demand session player whose fingerwork can be heard on such classic albums as “Super Session” which Bloomfield recorded with Al Kooper and Stephen Stills and “The Gilded Palace Of Sin” by THE FLYING BURRITO BROTHERS, as well as “End Of the Century” from THE RAMONES, to name but three platters.
