Punk Proponents Pay Tribute To THE ROLLING STONES

As a band whom parents used to hate and who used to sneer at such attitude, THE ROLLING STONES have quite a lot in common with punks, and punks were never above covering classics from the first wave of British invasion since SEX PISTOLS” delivery of “Whatcha Gonna Do About It” back in the day. So there’s no surprise in the genre’s proponents’ readiness to read some of Jagger-Richards perennials; what’s amazing, though, is the presence on “Punk Me Up” – here’s the title of the forthcoming tribute album, out on July 26th – of “Miss You” and “Angie” alongside more expected ones.

Jackie Leven German Concerts Uncovered And Released

An artist who came up with a piece titled “The Sexual Loneliness Of Jesus Christ” must be affectionately remembered by rock connoisseurs – only many of those haven’t heard of a Scottish troubadour Jackie Leven, occasionally also known as Sir Vincent Lone. He found fame as a folk-steeped singer-songwriter in the late ’60s only to reinvent himself as a peddler of psychedelia-tinctured new wave as a frontman of DOLL BY DOLL in the early ’80s. Some time down the line, the remnants of that ensemble teamed up with Glen Matlock to form CONCRETE BULLETPROOF INVISIBLE but didn’t take it further than the “Big Tears” single before the vocalist resumed his solo career which included the “Jackie Leven Said” album with a famous writer Ian Rankin and records with THE STORNOWAY GIRLS, SMALL WORLD ORCHESTRA, SAINT JUDAS and THE CELTIC SOULMEN, a couple of these collectives with multi-instrumentalist Michael Cosgrave.

Dickey Betts’ Gig With Jack Bruce And Mick Taylor Restored In Full

Given the duration of Dickey Betts‘ career, the quotient of his concert albums to studio platters is rather substantial, yet there’s not enough recordings made in the ’80s, and surely none of the guitarist’s on-stage documents seems as impressive as “Live From The Lone Star Roadhouse: New York City 1988” because the evening preserved for posterity there saw the appearance, alongside him, two veterans of even great stature, Jack Bruce and Mick Taylor, as well as his a member of his own ensemble, Warren Haynes, and Rick Derringer. First released in 2018 as a double vinyl, this longplay contained only half of what was performed on that date – but now, soon after Dickey’s passing, its complete cut will be issued.

Home Demos Of BADFINGER’s Tom Evans To Be Out

A part of BADFINGER’s tragic history that saw both him and his songwriting partner Pete Ham – the two talents behind the immortal “Without You” – take their own lives, Tom Evans‘ oeuvre remains largely unknown. All of his laurels lay either with the band – where, except playing bass, he provided vocals on Paul McCartney-penned “Come And Get It” and, earlier, when they were still called THE IVIES, delivered “Maybe Tomorrow” which became a hit in quite a few coutries – or with THE BEATLES’ solo platters: the albums “All Things Must Pass” and “Imagine” by, respectively, George and John, and Ringo’s “It Don’t Come Easy” single. Yet while there have several volumes of Ham’s demos released over the years, Evans’ archives opened just recently.

Dr. John’s Lost Album To See The Light Of Day

Nobody ever doubted Dr. John‘s ability to conjure magic with no such frills as an ensemble of accompanists – or even without singing, let alone shaking his feathers – but the late great artist himself. It took him more than a decade to strip all of this and come up with what used to be called his solo piano albums, although those featured vocals on some tracks – the albums of which there were two, 1981’s “Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennack” and “The Brightest Smile In Town” from 1983, or everyone thought so. In reality, the Gris-Gris master laid down three platters in that mode, and while fans had the chance recently to listen to his acoustic performance of the solo piano type, July 12th is the date when a similar studio record should get issued.
