Bob Dylan Reopens Doors To His Budokan Shows

What’s immensely satisfying about Bob Dylan‘s official “Bootleg Series” is its chronological unpredictability, Mr. Zimmerman’s expanded editions touching on various points of his six-decade-long career. If the start of 2023 saw its seventeenth volume covering the “Time Out Of Mind” sessions of 1996–1997, Bob’s next move will take his listeners back to 1978 when “Dylan At Budokan” was issued. Expanded now to four CDs to form “The Complete Budokan 1978” box set and getting an alternative 2LP treatment as “Another Budokan 1978” album, this gem has a release date set for November 17th.

CREAM Members, Family And Friends Pay Homage To The Trio

Not a lot of bands have proved to be as influential as CREAM who, in a little more than two years, covered so much of blues-rock territory as to break the ground for generations to come. Yet, while a lot of artists performed the trio’s classics – from Ella Fitzgerald’s take on “Sunshine Of Your Love” to Midge Ure‘s reading of “Strange Brew” and beyond – there were but a few tribute albums dedicated to the supergroup’s music. And none of those could come close to one that will see the release on November 3rd.

Farewell, Dream Weaver Gary Wright

There’s hardly a radio listener in the world who hasn’t heard Gary Wright – even if they didn’t know it was him. While it’s hardly fair to call the instantly recognizable piano line of Harry Nilsson’s take on “Without You” Wright’s calling card, that is the part everybody knows, but Gary had so much more music of his own that stood the test of time to become eternal. Sadly, the veteran passed away on September 4th, aged 80.

Brian Setzer Sells His Soul

When it comes to planning ahead, for the last four decades Brian Setzer has always had more than a single route to pursue: if the guitarist couldn’t persuade his STRAY CATS colleagues to get together as they did on “40” back in 2019, he could corral the musicians of THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA whose 2015’s “Rockin’ Rudolph” didn’t see a follow-up yet – and, of course, he could go solo again. The veteran chose the last option on “Gotta Have The Rumble” in 2021 and stuck to the in the same comfortable rut until now, preparing to rock it once more on September 15th.

Lost Bernie Worrell Session Found And Wrapped For Release

Renowned mostly for his prominent role as an organ-grinder in FUNKADELIC/PARLIAMENT, Bernie Worrell was a prolific presence on a session scene, recording with a myriad of artists such as Jack Bruce and Stanley Clarke – the part of his life which soon will be covered in a dedicated tome, being penned by Cedric Hendrix – and elevating some of these adventures to projects the legendary ivories-driver steered to greatness himself. One of those came via guitarist John King and involved drummer extraordinaire Cindy Blackman and The Woo master.
