Phil Manzanera And Andy Mackay Lock The Clock

August 3, 2023

While certain ROXY MUSIC members prefer more traditional tropes than art-rock this ensemble are known for, when it comes to collaborations between Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay any notion of what the two may conjure up is often off the mark. From the veterans’ mid-’80s joint effort as THE EXPLORERS to a couple of albums which followed later in that decade, to 2019’s live offering “Roxymphony” and beyond, the guitarist and the reedman never let down the listener in terms of sonic delights. Nor they’re going to on the duo’s new record.

Dave Gahan Joins Nick Cave In Honoring Jeffrey Lee Pierce

August 2, 2023

This past June Jeffrey Lee Pierce could have turned 65 – a solid, respectable age – but the erstwhile leader of THE GUN CLUB sadly and untimely passed away in 1996, and his legend and legacy have been grooving in stature ever since. That’s why 2010 saw the inaugural release of “Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project”: the various-artists tribute series which was to run for four albums – all star-studded, with the late musicians’ songs, both previously issued and unreleased, covered by the likes of Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop, Isobel Campbell, Mark Lanegan and Nick Cave – only to stop after three offerings four years later.

Steve Miller Unmasks “The Joker”

July 29, 2023

When they started, STEVE MILLER BAND weren’t a truly special ensemble – just one of many psychedelic-minded American bands that shone on-stage but couldn’t boast of progressive, album-oriented thinking. And then, “The Joker” arrived late in 1973 to transform this collective into stars and, memorable by both its stunning cover artwork and bright songs – plus, the immortal “Maurice” of the title track – pave the way to “Fly Like An Eagle” and further chart flights all over the world. Now, five decades on, the time came to celebrate such an achievement, and Steve Miller found a great way to do so.
