Covering other people music has been a been a notable feature of Paul Gilbert‘s solo repertoire throughout his decades-long career, his 2014 platter "Stone Pushing Uphill Man" comprising no less than eight borrowed melodies, and those more often than not were instrumental readings of familiar material. Still, the MR. BIG cofounder usually selected songs from various sources, so “The Dio Album” which he releases on April 7th, will be the veteran’s first offering dedicated to a single artist.
One of the last living representatives of the classic blues era, Taj Mahal can do many things but emanating suaveness has never been one of those – quite the contrary, the singer has always looked and sounded a tad scruffy, and this made him so unique. Which is why it’s so wonderfully surprising that the legendary artist’s new album, penciled in for release on April 28th, should take him and his listeners to a high-class establishment.
Although their name seems to suggest otherwise, THE ZOMBIES have never been content to exist as living dead – even now when almost everyone got used to see the veterans as dinosaurs of the rock trade – and the ensemble’s 2015 album “Still Got That Hunger” all but confirmed this. It’s been more than two decades since Peter Gabriel opened a service called “The Full Moon Club” that catered to his hardcore fans who always wanted to embrace more of the audio and video material than the veteran’s standard discography could offer. Little by little, the service fizzled out, but now, gearing up for the issue of “i/o” album, the legendary artist is resurrecting it.
