Still doing rounds on both sides of the Atlantic almost fifty years after their start, English pop-punks BUZZCOCKS show no sign of losing the allure the ensemble had at any other point of their career, which is why there’s always interest to the veterans’ concert documents. One of those was issued back in 2003 on DVD hot on the heels of the group’s triumphant show on their home turf, at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on April 27th – but it’s taken the collective another two decades to present both audio and visual versions of that performance

Jack McDuff’s Previously Unheard Tapes Dusted Off For Release

It’s difficult to overestimate Jack McDuff‘s influence on rhythm-and-blues and rock organists, what with the likes Keith Emerson and Brian Auger being inspired by the American master of Hammond to project their own personality on original music. The soul-jazz legend may have had his finest hour back in the ’60s but Captain’s ’70s concerts were no less spectacular, as suggested by the “Check This Out” album from 1972, to the date McDuff’s only platter from that decade. Yet there’s another performance from the same year is forthcoming – recently uncovered and painstakingly restored.

KEEF HARTLEY BAND’s Essen Efforts To Be Out

One of the least celebrated, albeit deeply respected, ensembles emerging at the tail end of British blues boom, KEEF HARTLEY BAND were a genuine music institution whose alumni went to grace such collectives as JUICY LUCY, URIAH HEEP and T.REX to name but three and whose five studio albums haven’t lost an iota of their brilliance even fifty years later. As for the group’s concert documents, those are really rare, the only live record released during the team’s lifespan being “Little Big Band” from 1971, with a couple more discs that appeared in the last decade characterized by poor sound quality – which is about to change on April 26th.

ELO’s Mike de Albuquerque To Reissue His Solo Debut

He may have been ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA’s bassist only for a few years, in the early ’70s, but Michael de Albuquerque‘s contribution to such seminal pieces as their covers of “Roll Over Beethoven” and “In The Hall Of The Mountain King” and originals like “Showdown” and “Can’t Get It Out Of My Head” cannot be underestimated. Mike also released several albums under his own name – or, to be precise, there was one platter with Frank Ricotti, one credited to Michael de Albuquerque, and one to Albuquerque – of which the second reflected the player’s riotous cynicism. Bearing the title of “We May Be Cattle But We’ve All Got Names” and featuring quite a few famous performers, it will finally see a slightly expanded reappearance on May 31st.

GREENSLADE’s Entire BBC Sessions: Details Are In

While many progressive rock lovers were excited to hear the news of the forthcoming “At The BBC” set from the glorious GREENSLADE, the story that was published by a few agencies back in January and offered a summary of the sessions used for the double-CD set lacked substance in terms of actual tracklisting, so aficionados wondered whether it would be worth pursuing the new release. Finally, the details are in, and the verdict might seem fittingly double-edged.
