It’s been almost a year since Phil Soussan released the "Nobody's Fool" single as a precursor to his new solo album, a long-overdue follow-up to "No Protection" from 2011, and while one could assume the bassist may have abandoned this idea to dedicate all his time to LAST IN LINE whose “Jericho” was recently released, that’s not the case.
August hasn’t reached its middle point yet, but a slew of Yuletide platters already appears on various platforms for preorder. Most of them are predictably boring even at first glance – even when they’re not your usual Bublé-gum – although some seem interesting enough, and an occasional one feel too alluring to miss out on. Such is the “Father Christmas” EP from none other than the legendary Dave Davies.
Let out in the open in 1973, WISHBONE ASH‘s “Live Dates” remains one of the most listened to and respected concert albums of rock era, summarizing the English ensemble’s impeccable initial run of four longplays, immortalizing the force of the quartet’s original line-up and setting a standard for the group to follow through the decades. Fifty years down the line, the collective has all the rightful reasons to celebrate such an achievement – and they do so in style.
“I’ve done almost everything that I wanted to do but, obviously, I’m not a millionaire and I’m not famous, and it’s not something that I strive for anymore. I still love music, and I love making music: in my heart, I’m a minstrel, but if I don’t get the opportunity to do it, then I can’t do it.”: in these words Dicken, the British artist who fronted such popular ensembles as MR. BIG and BROKEN HOME outlined to me a part of his life philosophy, one of the key words in his description being “almost”: back in 2016, the veteran didn’t really plan to write and publish an autobiography. Now, the singer and guitarist born Jeff Pain has done just that.
Brian Parrish may be famous for his creative partnership with Paul Gurvitz – harking back to their work in THE LONDONERS in the ’60s and brought to the mass attention on their George Martin-produced eponymous album, out in 1971 – and for fronting BADGER on this collective’s concert debut, released three years later, yet this British guitarist didn’t have so much of an individual career. There was his solo platter “Love On My Mind” issued in 1976 and featuring the likes of Pete Wingfield as Parrish’s accompanists – as well 2007’s “Endgame” and “Traveller” which quietly entered the world in 2016, and that seemed to be all, but recently Brian added a fresh entry to his discography.
